The Sons of Lothar were the Alliance expedition through the Dark Portal after the Second War. Turalyon led them. Khadgar, Alleria Windrunner, Danath Trollbane, and Kurdran Wildhammer were the names beside his. They went to Draenor to keep the Horde from opening the way a second time, and they won enough that a less cursed campaign would have been a homecoming.

Ner’zhul’s spell ended the campaign by ending the world it was fought on. The Sons broke the portal rather than let the disaster follow them home. Most of the famous captains survived to be found on the wreck. Turalyon and Alleria went through a rift and out of Azeroth’s history for a generation.

The name is the point. They were not Turalyon’s personal company. They were Lothar’s, led by the lieutenant who had watched Lothar die and had decided that the dead man’s war was still his. Every later command he accepts is a variation on that decision.
